Gentiana andrewsii is a unique native flowering plant that is commonly called the bottle gentian, closed gentian, or closed bottle gentian, is an herbaceous species of flowering plant in the gentian family Gentianaceae. Gentiana andrewsii is endemic to northeastern North America, from the Dakotas to the East Coast and through eastern Canada.
Bottle Gentian are slow-growing but long-lived and require little care once established. Bumblebees are considered to be their primary pollinators as they are strong enough to wrench open the closed flowers. Cream Gentian is the first Gentian to bloom in late summer. Bottle Gentian and others follow into September or October offering late-season color to the mostly sunny sites they prefer in medium-wet to medium-dry soils.
